Sol Duc Valley

Hiking trails

Salmon Cascades – A short easy walk from parking lot to the Sol Duc River. A viewing platform overlooks the river rushing down into pools. In October and November, watch coho salmon swimming up the river, and leaping up the cascades.
Ancient Groves Nature Trail – Take a walk on a .6 mile loop trail though centuries-old Douglas firs, trees covered with moss and lichen, abundant sword ferns on the forest floor.
Sol Duc Falls – It's 1.6 miles to the falls, on a level, well-maintained trail. At the bridge, are first views of the falls, rushing over rocks down into a narrow gorge, sending up mist and rainbows. Cross over the bridge, and follow the trail upstream for more views of the falls.
Sol Duc Hot Springs – Go for a soak in the hot springs, three different mineral hot pools, including a wading pool, plus a large swimming pool, from May to September. Sol Duc which means “land of sparkling waters,” also has cabins, a campground, cafe and grocery store.
