Kids might think of San Diego as one big beach, but East County is completely different. Here traveling with kids, on Mt. Palomar you can smell the scent of pine and cedar trees and look into the great telescope, then drop down into a the spectacular Anza Borrego Desert for a completely different landscape. All are close enough to San Diego that you can visit as a day trip, but it's also fun to spend several days in the area. |

Ticket to Tecate – The San Diego Railroad Museum operates train rides from Campo to Tecate and back. You'll ride on a vintage San Diego and Arizona Railway train past miles of sagebrush, over wooden train trestles, through railroad tunnels to Tecate, a quiet town on the Mexican border.
