Hollywood
One of the most fun things to do in Hollywood with kids is to spot the stars under your feet: bronze plaques on the sidewalks honoring show business celebrities. Don't miss out on watching a movie in one of the great movie theaters here! Tip: Hollywood is somewhat run down in spots, and it's best visited in the day time
  Legendary Movie Palaces –
Hollywood
Mann's Chinese Theatre Walk in the footsteps of the famous at the Mann's Chinese Theatre. Everyone loves comparing feet with Harrison Ford, Shirley Temple, Whoopi Goldberg, Robin Williams, and Star Wars' R2D2 or C3PO.
But don't just stay outside:  The theater is worth exploring, with its huge dragon winding across the front and two huge Chinese stylized dogs at the entrance. The lobby is wonderfully ornate: Asian murals, statues, gongs and tons of red and gold decor. Inside, there are several screens (the main theatre holds over 2,000) showing whatever's the latest movie.
El Capitan Theatre Across the street from Mann's is the El Capitan Theatre, owned by Disney. The theatre is stunningly beautiful, with hand painted wall murals and incredible detail everywhere. If you only have time to catch one kids' movie, go here. Featuring Disney/ Touchstone releases (new and classic), you get a lot more than the movie: ushers in gold braid seat you while a live organist plays movie scores. Before the film, you get a live show, featuring Disney characters. Don't miss the display of Disney memorabilia downstairs from the lobby.
Tip: This is very popular with locals and tourists alike, buy your tickets ahead of time!
The Egyptian Theatre The Egyptian Theatre on Hollywood Boulevard was built in 1922, the heyday of grand movie palaces and took its Egyptian theme from King Tut's tomb (discovered that year). Recently, it's been renovated to recapture that elegance, with the the best in current technology. Tour the theater, and get a backstage look at this legendary movie palace.
Hollywood
Walk of Fame Take a walk among the stars. The sidewalks along Hollywood Boulevard near Mann's Chinese Theatre are sprinkled with bronze stars in a stretch known as the "Walk of Fame." Where else could you find Snow White and Mickey Mouse (6900 block Hollywood Boulevard), Woody Woodpecker and Bugs Bunny (7000 block) within a few feet of each other? And, don't forget Thomas Edison (6700 block), the inventor of the motion picture camera.
  Hollywood Traditions

Hollywood Wax Museum Rub elbows with the famous at the Wax Museum on Hollywood Blvd. The Wax Museum does have figures from history and sports but the obvious emphasis here is on "show biz" stars. Don't miss displays like the entire cast of the "Wizard of Oz," and your favorite characters from "Star Wars" and "Star Trek."
Tip: You can get a discount pass for both the Wax Museum and The Guinness World of Records Museum. Or, both museums are free with the Go Los Angeles Card.
The Hollywood Entertainment Museum is filled with interactive exhibits, videos, original sets from TV favorites like "Star Trek" a "back lot tour," and displays that show how a film is edited. Don't miss the large scale model of Hollywood at its peak.
Hollywood Farmers' Market
Hollywood Farmers' Market On Sunday mornings, local families go to the large open-air street market on Ivar Ave.(one block west of Vine St.). Sample of the bounty of locally grown fruits and vegetables, nuts and dates, cheeses, breads and baked goods, homemade lemonade and bags of popcorn. Stop to listen to street musicians, drumming, fiddling and strumming away. A real neighborhood event, it's a great way to experience the diversity of Los Angeles. The market is located on Ivar and Selma Avenues, between Hollywood and Sunset Blvds. 8:30am -1:00pm.
Homes of the Stars Depending on how crazy you are about celebrities, you might want to take a tour. There are bus tours lasting up to two hours where you're driven by both past and present "star" homes and there are trolley tours that drive you past local sites. But for just a buck or so, you can buy a "Map to the Homes of the Stars" and make your own tour up as you go!
