    Town of Mammoth Lakes
Mammoth Creek

Mammoth Creek Park – Our favorite spot in the town is Mammoth Creek Park, a small park with grass, big chunks of granite to climb on and a playground.

But best of all, from the park cross over the bridge, walk south along Mammoth Creek until you reach grassy meadows, little islands, and access to the creek. Spend the afternoon playing in the creek, building little dams and enjoying the high mountain scenery.

Another larger park in town, Shady Rest Park, has a playground with swings and climbing structures, a basketball court, soccer fields, and picnic tables. If you have bikes, pick up the paved bike path here.
Go horseback riding – At the Sierra Meadows Ranch Equestrian Center, there are one hour, two hour and three hour rides along Mammoth Creek and the meadows, kids 6 and up. For little ones, there are half hour walks and a petting zoo. In the evening, the whole family will enjoy a hayride, music and campfire.
Bike through the forest – Rent bikes in town and ride around wide, paved bike paths through the pine trees around the town. There are plenty of places to rent bikes, such as Mammoth Sporting Goods and Footloose Sports, which have kids’ bikes for rent, including baby joggers, kid’s trailers, kid seats and helmets.
    Mammoth Mountain –
Mammoth Mountain Adventure Center – In summer the junior rock climbing courses are a lot of fun. Parents hold the safety lines for the kids as they climb up the artificial climbing wall, or watch them slide down the zip lines (our boys loved this).

Perfect for the whole family is Geocaching, a high tech treasure hunt on Mammoth Mountain (learn how to use GPS) – a gentle 2 hour hike if you have little children, and a longer half day treasure hunt for older kids.

Kids on Mammoth Mountain
Ride the gondola to the top of Mammoth Mountain – Ride the scenic gondola to the top of Mammoth Mountain. There are picnic tables and glorious views of the Minaret mountain range to the west and the White Mountains to the east.
Visit the Top of the Sierra Interpretive Center, interactive displays about the geology (and seismic activity) of Mammoth Mountain, and 360 views of the ancient volcanoes, rivers, mountains and valleys.
Tip: Even in summer, there’s sometimes still snow on Mammoth Mountain. Our kids had their first snowball fight on the mountain top in July.
