Central coast california
The Central Coast has some of the most glorious scenery in California, especially Highway 1 from Monterey to Morro Bay. Kids will want to run along sand beaches, scramble over smooth silvery driftwood, spend time being mesmerized by waves breaking on craggy rocks or look out to sea for otters, seals or gray whales. Here the Pacific Ocean is simply majestic.
  Santa Cruz
  Monterey
    Carmel-by-the-Sea
San Simeon and Cambria - Hearst Castle
    Cayucos
    Morro Bay

Pismo Beach

    Santa Barbara
Tip: The drive down Highway 1 from Monterey to Morro Bay has stellar views of the rugged California coast, white waves crashing on rocks and scenic viewpoints. Many of these viewpoints are little more than turnouts on the narrow one lane highway and too precipitous for little kids to get out and run around, especially the section from Big Sur to San Simeon. Your best bets for a place to stop are Andrew Molera State Park the Big Sur river flows into the ocean in an estuary for birds and the lagoon at Pfeiffer Beach, beautiful scenery and a wide sandy beach.
